This report finds Indigenous communities and businesses in the Atlantic region directly generated $4 billion in output in 2021 – 3% of regional GDP and over 4% when all indirect and induced efforts are included.
Challenges facing the Indigenous economy must be addressed to close gaps and unlock the potential of the Indigenous economy. The opportunities to grow the Indigenous economy and advance self-determination should be explored further. Challenges include access to capital, market access, inadequate access to high-speed broadband, and education gaps. For more on Indigenous contributions to the economy, consider viewing the other reports in our Indigenous Research series.
